With 12 hectares of landscape, the outdoor area is composed of fields and gardens featuring the typical vegetation of Alentejo. The leisure area includes a swimming pool, shaded areas, a padel court, the vineyard and the lake. The Quinta also offers bicycles, buggies and scooters to explore the entire Xarrama ecological reserve in a relaxed way. We also provide a walking trail in a unique setting, surrounded by rich fauna and flora, ideal for those who appreciate contact with nature.

HISTORY
Quinta da Amendoeira is located in one of the oldest areas of human occupation in the territory of Évora.
It has existed in the area known as the “coutos de Évora” (a vast peri-urban area between vegetable gardens and estates, crossed by the Xarrama River) since 1875, when the first cartographic survey of the country was carried out.
The area where the property now stands, between the medieval roads of Vimieiro/Avis (today known as Canaviais) and Cinco Cepas, was known since the 18th century as Portado de Vale Flores, the name of the estate (still existing) responsible for the “guardianship” of the neighbouring estates.
Archaeological studies reveal human presence since the Neolithic period, with findings such as a quartzite hammerstone, a menhir, traces of carving and settlement that testify to thousands of years of cultural continuity.
Quinta da Amendoeira stands upon a millenary heritage, among olive trees, vineyards and the sounds of the countryside. Located in one of the oldest areas of Évora, the lands of Amendoeira were essential during the Middle Ages to the agricultural economy and to supplying the city.
The proximity to the Xarrama River and its alluvial banks favoured vineyard cultivation, as documented in the land heritage of the former Casa Pia, and allowed the continuous extraction of high-quality stone for construction, particularly for door and window lintels.
The lake and the Xarrama River ensure the balance of the fauna and flora ecosystem, enabling the cultivation of organic products certified by external entities.
Since the 14th century, vineyard cultivation and stone extraction have demonstrated the gastronomic, artisanal and architectural importance of this region, which we strive to preserve and honour.
Today, the part of the Quinta located next to the river is classified as a national ecological reserve, while the olive grove is part of the national agricultural reserve.
